7 Myths that Keep You From Digital Scrapbooking

1. I have to create digital scrapbooking layouts like what I see in magazines or in the Scrap Girls Newsletter or in online galleries. Sometimes the best thing you can do is put away the inspiration and just go make something. It's easy to get caught up in looking at other people's beautiful creations. But when you're getting paralyzed by comparing your scrapbooking to theirs, that's when it is doing more harm than good.

2. I must have more supplies first – ex. Wacom Tablet, Newest Version of Photoshop, SLR top of the line digital camera, etc. There are always more things you can buy. Be aware if you're continuously telling yourself you can't start until you buy one more thing. This is a sign of procrastinating. Be honest with yourself. Do you really need one more thing or are you avoiding just getting started?

3. My life must be as exciting as a blockbuster movie in order to be worth scrapbooking digitally. Your life is just as exciting as it needs to be. There are stories in your life worthy of being told. If you want to digitally scrapbook, just start with your everyday life. What makes up your daily routine? Who are the people you love? What's something your learning in your life right now? It's not that you don't have stories to tell, it's that you haven't trained yourself to recognize the stories of your life. Once you start recognizing them you'll find you have an endless amount of content for digital scrapbooking.

4. I must have kids or grandkids in order to have material to create digital scrapbook pages about.
Who made the rule that scrapbooking has to be about kids?

5. I see most digital scrapbooking layouts with only one to two photos on them, but I have sooooo many photos I need to use. Then use a lot of photos. Remember there are no hard and fast rules in digital scrapbooking.

6. I have to digitally scrapbook every single photo I have starting in chronological order, and I'm so behind. It is not necessary that you scrapbook your photos in order. It is also not necessary that you scrapbook all of your photos or every single event in your life. Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves that it takes the fun out of digital scrapbooking all together. Just take it story by story. What story is important to you today? Start there.

7. I have to be a computer genius to scrapbook digitally. No. You don't. It's just like anything you're passionate about doing. It will take some time, some patience, some experimenting and playing. But if you want to do digital scrapbooking you can. Scrap Girls is setting you up to succeed by offering a newsletter and University with tutorials, a Message Board where your questions will get answered, and classes and eBooks to teach you even more.
